FreeWan is a network of many homebuilt ad-hoc networks. These individual ad-hoc networks are called cells. Each cell is like a small community where people share data and information such as video and music in an environment of privacy unrestricted by bandwidth caps or being forced to pay too much for broadband service. A FreeWan Cell is very much like a minature Internet. The bare minimum that is required to set up a FreeWan cell is a router (preferably wireless) and one computer that will act as the main server. The main server does not necessarily need to be a very powerful computer since its main function is to provide a starting point for the exploration of the FreeWan Cell. This main server should host at least a http (web) server and a DNS (name) server in order to provide a place to start browsing the cell.
